What to do

Perućica is one of the last primeval forests in Europe, with beech and spruce trees over 50 m tall. A ranger-led walk leads to the viewpoint over the 75 m Skakavac waterfall. Fit hikers can climb Maglić from Prijevor on the Montenegrin border, a full-day hike.

At Tjentište, the huge concrete monument remembers the Battle of the Sutjeska in 1943.

Good to know

  • The Maglić trail crosses the border with Montenegro; carry your passport.
  • Weather in the high mountains changes quickly. Start early.
